Literacy Crisis

Reading Helps You Grow

Over 60% of Americans face literacy challenges, significantly affecting health and income, highlighting the need for educational reform.

The nation is in the throes of a decades-long literacy crisis. More than 60 percent of U.S. students are incapable of reading at their grade level and adults fare no better. The Barbara Bush Foundation reports that 60 percent of those between 16 and 74 are unable to read at a sixth-grade level.

Get Involved

Enhancing the quality of our children's lives, one book at a time.

Gordon Philanthropies, Inc. was established by Daniel Gordon in 2020 with the mission to create and support educational programs aimed at improving the lives of people living in underserved and under-resourced communities. GP advances its mission through its various programs which are strategically designed to increase students’ reading motivation and access to reading materials.

Books Behind Bars

Gordon Philanthropies, Inc. in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department provided incarcerated mothers the opportunity to record their voice as they read a book which was gifted to their children. This recent project,  is part of an ongoing collaboration between Gordon Philanthropies and the LA County Sheriff’s Department current endeavor in where GP is building libraries inside the visitors  centers and hosts recording events that offer an innovative approach to creating opportunities for meaningful parent-child bonding even while incarcerated.
